About Us

Kate Thurber, Veterinary Technician - Katey joined us March of 2019 after relocating from California where she was working in sales a few years after taking a break from working as a veterinary technician for many years. She will be receptioning at both Beadle lake and Athens as needed as well as assisting some as well. She and her spouse look forward to getting to know the area and making new friends.

Autumn Thornton, Veterinary Technician- Autumn  joined our team July 2018. She is currently attending KCC. She'll be attending MSU starting in August 2019 to get her Bachelor's degree to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has a cat named Nettie. 


Sarah Horne, Receptionist- Sarah joined us in March of 2018 after leaving the human realm of medicine. She is the main receptionist at the Beadle Lake office but you may see her from time to time down at the Athens office as well She graduated with an Applied Science degree in Radiology in 2006. She lives in Springfield with her husband Brant, two daughters, Jadyn & Alyssa, dog Comet, and cats Lilo & Stitch. She enjoys spending time with her family, volleyball and swimming in the summer.

Skyla Reynolds - Senior at Athens High School.  Started as a student when we opened earlier this year.  We enjoyed her around the office and she joined the staff this summer.  She will continue to help when available.

Katie Hill- Veterinary Assistant - She joined our team in February 2019. Katie grew up riding and showing Morgan horses. She primarily works at the Beadle Lake clinic, but you may see her at the Athens clinic from time to time.  In 2013 Katie attended Equissage for her certification in Equine Sports Massage Therapy.  When she is not working she enjoys spending time with her family, her two dogs and her horses.



Michelle Barnes - Office Manager -
Michelle is a jack of all trades and a master of none! She has been with Beadle Lake since the beginning, playing multiple roles on the team. She enjoys her job, the many new challenges it has brought and the skills it has taught her.
Michelle graduated from MSU in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. She and her husband Chad  have two awesome children; Michalla and Drew.  They live on a farm in  Ceresco and have many hobbies. 



Kristin Gilley - Attending KCC. Started working at Beadle Lake and Athens in July 2017.  She will help out at Beadle Lake and Athens while attending college.

Mary Arlt, Receptionist- Customer Service runs in her family.  A Ludington native, Mary has lived in Union City for the past 17 years with her husband Fred, her dog Toby and her cat Molly. Her hobbies include nature photography and exploring Michigan lighthouses. 

Athens Veterinary Services

Dr. Kallie Ashcraft  joined our team in October of 2016. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 and went on to complete a year long equine internship at Tennessee Equine Hospital. During her internship Dr. Ashcraft focused on Performance medicine while also learning about all aspects of equine medicine. Dr. Ashcraft will begin the Spinal Manipulation course at Healing Oasis Wellness Center in January.  Dr. Ashcraft will be splitting her time between Beadle Lake Large Animal and Athens Veterinary Service caring for all species. In her spare time Dr. Ashcraft enjoys running with her dog Charlie and spending time with family and friends.

Makenna Murray, Veterinary Technician- Makenna resides in Galesburg, MI. She graduated from Ross Veterinary Assistant Program in 2019. During her schooling she had the opportunity to extern at Beadle Lake and Athens Veterinary for 7 weeks. It  was during that internship that we saw her talents and asked her to join our team. Her interests are performance horses, alternative medicine, and small animal surgeries. In her spare time she loves spending time with her family and learning more about the profession. 



Dr David Seidl - Veterinarian  -
He came to Athens Vet Services this past year.  He is a 1973 MSU Graduate, worked in mixed animal for 20yrs then small animal another 25yrs.  In May of 2018 he retired from his practice, shortly after that the bordem set in and he started working with us 1 day per week.  “A good Vet never stops working!” He has a wife, 3 kids, and a few pets.

​Jessie Miller - Veterinary Technician - I have worked in the Veterinary field as a veterinary assistant/technician for 17 years. My first 16 years where at Seidl Veterinary in Hastings. In 2018, I took on a wonderful opportunity with Athens Veterinary Services! Looking forward to the years to come and to watch the growth of this clinic. My passion is working in the veterinary industry with large and small animals.
When I’m not working. I’m spending time with my girls, riding my horses, running, biking, playing with my dogs or spending time with my family and my cats at home.
 I also work a few hours a month at, Southwest Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in Kalamazoo MI. This gives me a opportunity for continuing education for myself and for my day practice.


Attending Veterinarian, Dr. Hilary Setlak,  graduated with her DVM from MSU in 2008 and with her bachelors in Biology and Pre-Veterinary medicine from the University of Findlay 2004. Dr. Setlak previously worked full-time at Dickman Road Small Animal Veterinary Clinic and as an emergency veterinarian for Beadle Lake Veterinary Clinic. 
Dr. Setlak has three dogs and a small beef herd. She is a farm girl at heart. Her hobbies include large animal medicine, outdoor activities, and reading.
